SWA Armoured Cable
ANPU's steel wire armoured (SWA) cable — designation N2XRY (international) or YJV32 (China GB) — is a 0.6/1 kV power cable to IEC 60502-1. Construction: copper conductor, XLPE insulation, PPS filler, PVC inner lining, single-layer round galvanised steel wires, PVC outer sheath.
The round-wire armour delivers radial crush protection and the axial tensile strength to bear the cable's own weight in vertical drops — making it the standard pick for tall buildings, mines, mountainous terrain and any route with large laying drop. Flame retardancy is verified to IEC 60332-1-2:2015; the cable also resists rodent biting.
Six Engineered Layers
Each layer is built to the AP7301 factory specification — conductor class, insulation thickness, armour wire diameter and sheath gauge are all defined.
Annealed Copper to IEC 60228:2004
Class 1 solid or Class 2 stranded copper. Single wire diameter Φ1.13 mm – Φ2.94 mm; 1 – 61 wires per conductor depending on cross-section.
XLPE — Cross-Linked Polyethylene
Wall thickness 0.7 – 1.4 mm scaled to conductor size. Supports 90 °C continuous and 250 °C short-circuit conductor temperatures.
PPS Filler
Polypropylene strand filler in graded specifications: 60# / 90# / 120# / 160# / 200# / 240# / 270#. Right-direction laying with controlled pitch-to-diameter ratio.
Extruded PVC / PPD
0.8 – 1.4 mm bedding layer applied over the assembled core. Provides a smooth, uniform substrate for the steel wire armour.
Galvanised Round Steel Wires — G1A
Single helical layer. Wire diameters Φ0.8 / 1.25 / 1.6 / 2.0 / 2.5 mm depending on cable size. Radial protection plus axial tensile capacity.
PVC, Black Standard
Wall thickness 1.2 – 2.3 mm. Continuous markers: Wuhan Anpu Cable Group Co., Ltd. / YJV32 / 0.6/1 kV / length.

Engineer & Procurement FAQ
The questions most often asked by EPC contractors, distributors and project developers specifying SWA armoured cable.
What is a SWA cable, and how does it differ from STA?
SWA uses a single helical layer of round galvanised steel wires — radial crush protection plus axial tensile strength, allowing the cable to support its own weight in vertical drops. STA uses two flat tapes — strong crush resistance but no significant tensile capacity. For horizontal direct burial, YJV22 (STA) is more economical; specify YJV32 (SWA) wherever tensile load is present.
Is N2XRY the same as YJV32?
Both share the Cu / XLPE / PVC bedding / SWA / PVC sheath construction at 0.6/1 kV and are functionally interchangeable in most applications. They are not bit-for-bit identical — GB and VDE differ in wire diameters, sheath tolerances and test voltages. ANPU manufactures each order to the specific standard nominated by the buyer; IEC 60502-1 is the default.
What does "32" in YJV32 mean?
In the China GB designation, two digits after the insulation / sheath letters indicate armour and sheath type. The first "3" = round steel wire armour (SWA); the second "2" = PVC outer sheath. YJV22 has flat steel tape armour (STA) — equivalent to N2XBY.
What's the minimum bending radius?
≥ 12 × outer diameter per AP7301 specification. Tighter bends risk damaging the steel wire armour and the underlying insulation. Use the cable's listed outer diameter (see the dimensions table above) to calculate the field bending radius.
What's the operating temperature range?
Long-term cable operating temperature is −20 °C to +90 °C. Maximum short-circuit conductor temperature is 250 °C for ≤ 5 seconds. The cable also passes flame retardancy testing to IEC 60332-1-2:2015.
Can SWA cable be directly buried underground?
Yes. SWA cable is rated for direct burial per IEC 60502-1. The steel wire armour provides full mechanical protection without conduit, and the galvanised wire layer deters rodents — important for routes in tropical, agricultural and mining environments.
Can ANPU build to BS 5467, DIN VDE or other non-IEC standards?
Yes. IEC 60502-1 is the default production basis; every standard in the cross-reference table (DIN VDE 0276-603, BS 5467, NF C 32-321, AS/NZS 5000.1, GB/T 12706) is offered as a built-to-spec custom order. Specify the standard on your PO and ANPU manufactures, tests and certifies to that exact standard.
What test reports can ANPU provide?
A factory test certificate covering conductor DC resistance, AC voltage test (3.5 kV / 1 min), insulation resistance and dimensional inspection is provided with every shipment. Pre-shipment inspection by SGS / BV / TÜV / Intertek is supported. Type test reports to IEC 60502-1 are available on request.
What's the lead time?
Typical lead time is 7 – 15 working days depending on cross-section, core configuration and order quantity. Urgent orders evaluated case by case — message the team on WhatsApp to confirm availability.
